History of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management
Department emblem Industrial Engineering and Management Silpakorn University
In the western region, which is in close proximity to industrial factories and agricultural processing plants, there was a notable absence of educational institutions specializing in industrial engineering research. Recognizing the potential to enhance the quality and efficiency of production, Silpakorn University, located in the western region, has extended its support to foster advancements in industrial engineering sciences, paralleling other regions of the country where universities provide similar support. To address this gap, the Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Technology established the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management in the year 2542 B.E. (1999). This department, which became the fourth department within the faculty, commenced admitting its inaugural cohort of students in the same year. This initiative aims to elevate the region’s industrial capabilities and contribute to the overall development of the industrial sector.
History of the establishment of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management
1997 Proceeded with the preparation of a plan to establish the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. It was included in the budget plan for 1997.
1998 Proceeded with the drafting of the Bachelor of Engineering curriculum. Field of study: Industrial Engineering
1999 Silpakorn University Has led a project to establish a department of industrial engineering and management. Propose to be included in the Silpakorn University Development Plan, Phase 8, 1999, and open for admission to the first batch of 50 students.
In the year 2543 B.E. (2000 A.D.), a selection examination was conducted to provide educational opportunities for students who graduated in the industrial technician profession to study in the industrial engineering field under the Industrial Technology Program, Type C. The program aimed to promote industrial technology. The first batch consisted of 13 students.
In the year 2544 B.E. (2001 A.D.), revisions to the curriculum of the Bachelor of Engineering program in Industrial Engineering were carried out to ensure its relevance to the needs of the industry. This was done with the approval of the Silpakorn University Council on August 2, 2545 B.E. (2002 A.D.). Additionally, to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning, the establishment of the department aimed to produce engineers with knowledge, skills, and experience in the profession. Consequently, construction of a metal casting engineering laboratory building was initiated, and teaching equipment was procured.
